  Circa was such a pleasant experience. The service was great, food had so much flavour and very generous servings, atmosphere is so authentic.

  It’s a lovely old building in a beautiful setting, with private rooms available. Let’s be aware this is a predominately wedding reception offering, for which it gets good reviews. With that in mind, the entire food offering is set around this. Restricted menu limiting everyone to 3 courses. Nuts, as this possibly excludes those who don’t usually eat 3 courses. The arrival was warm but the temperature cold, not a good start. The food, acceptable but with offerings more befitting a wedding menu, it was average at best. Scallops to start were nicely done and well presented, main of risotto, heavy and too rich, for me pesto not a good accompaniment with risotto, and dessert of rhubarb, unappealing. With a bill of $115 per person plus alcohol the evening was a let down and not good value. Beware, sparkling water sold by the bottle, a now out of date arrangement, with no mention when we ordered it, then immediately after pouring asked if we wanted another. This is a rip-off, most restaurants now with a one-off charge and unlimited supply, or no charge at all. We have ourselves to blame by picking a venue whose primary market is weddings. We found our niche the next evening at EXP, a totally different experience from start to finish, perfectly executed and presented. And not that much more, but poles appear for value.

  Amazing location for a wedding! There are no less than three different locations on the property for your ceremony, the Wisteria Garden being my personal favourite, especially later in the afternoon, the sun sets behind the ceremony spot. The vintage warm wooden vibes of the main house are beautiful, there is an outside dancefloor and with The Convent Boutique hotel about 200 meters down the road it’s a short buggy drive to your ceremony. The food and wine selection is always top shelf!

  I have photographed countless weddings at Circa 1876 Restaurant and The Convent Hunter Valley. It is one of my very favourite wedding venues in the Hunter Valley. It has all the ingredients needed for a perfect wedding.
  
  There is accommodation available onsite at The Convent. And these rooms are beautiful and perfect for wedding preparation in the morning of a wedding.
  
  The wedding ceremony generally takes place in the garden area and is one of the nicest garden ceremony locations. The light and the location are just perfect.
  
  All wedding photos can be taken onsite, all within a short walk. Andy having your wedding at this venue, you can pretty much guarantee that you will get beautiful wedding photos.
  
  The reception always looks great. Rustic elegance. This combined with the amazing food and great service make it an awesome wedding venue that I highly recommend.

  An absolutely breathtaking venue. As a wedding photographer I've been to Circa 1876 countless times for weddings. It has a stunning outdoor ceremony spot. A tree-lined, stone path that leads from the main building to a beautiful garden backdrop ceremony location. To the right, a small chapel in amongst the vineyard, and a short walk from there, The Convent.
  
  One of the nicest spots to photograph in the Hunter if you love architecture!
  
  There's also onsite accommodation at The Convent, with more options close by. Any couple wanting a high-end, unique venue full of character, need to pop Circa 1876 on their venue list.
